Scorpions in Austin suburbs?
Has anyone had problems with scorpions in the Austin suburbs?
Back in the late 1970s I remember that a friend's house near Stassney and Nuckols Crossing was unbelievably infested with scorpions. You would turn on the garage light and see dozens scatter. Of course this was a new subdivision at the time, so perhaps the house was on or near a debris pile of some kind. That house gave me the creeps and I probably spent no more than 10 minutes there before excusing myself. On the other hand, my brother in law has lived for several years in two subdivisions near Slaughter & Brodie, and says he's never seen 'em. If you have a scorpion problem: do you have a lush lawn or exposed dirt and outcroppings in your yard? Dave |

exposed dirt and outcroppings in your yard? I live near Hwy 290 west and FM1826 and have always had scorpions at times during the year. Haven't seen many lately, but when they're in season, not uncommon to see one or more everyday. We have grass, but there are a few rocky outcroppings in the yard. Scorpions shouldn't worry you nearly as much as those centipedes you
were mentioning.... Those centipedes will deliver a sting like you wouldn't believe. If you are somebody who is allergic to ant or bee's you are likely to die if you don't go to the hospital after getting stung by one..... If you get stung by one and you aren't allergic, you are likely to go to the hospital just for pain medications......... =will= |

I know that this may sound a bit crazy......
If any of you guys run across a centipede or scorpion around here, and you have some kind of jar that you could put it in, do you think that you could give me an email, and I could come pick it up from you? I am a fan of odd crazy animals, and I would appreciate any of these guys that I could get. If you don't feel safe doing this, then don't do it. It's not worth getting stung over...... Appreciate any help...... =will= |

We got plenty, we are in NE Austin, just past the edge of the city, we have
a big garden and I really don't like killing them, we put them outside with the snakes and such. They only hurt for about 5 minutes. They pack a big a wallop for those moments. They are just protecting themselves from us giants. Be at one with your surroundings!!!! They mostly show up in the bathtub, but I've seen them inside walls to (when
remodeling). We're south, near Ben White & Brodie, not too far from Barton Creek. Haven't seen any in several months, but when it gets too dry, or too cold, they'll come back. If they're regulars of your neighborhood, just make sure you wear slippers if padding around a dark house late at night... ;( Also check your clothes. Our daughter put on a pair of jeans she'd left lying on the bathroom floor, was sore for two weeks. Nothing like a scorpion sting on your butt first thing in the morning! My sister-in-law has had them in both the last two places I helped her move
from and picked up wood in her front yard: 1. Cedar Park at the Leander edge 2. Behind Lake Georgetown Both yards have been very dry for years. I live in Leander and have for two years and haven't ever seen one -- but I do water a couple times a month and so do all the neighbors. John "Dave Riggleman" wrote in message om...
