Default East Austin Garden Festival - March 17, Don't miss the fun!

There is a Garden Fair this Saturday in East Austin, sponsered by the Travis
County Extension Service. Admission is free. The Garden Fair, named "A
Passion for Plants", has not been widely publicized as far as I can tell.
There should be a high presenter to atendee ratio, making for a fun
educational experience. Please spread the word to anyone who might be
interested, especially those who live in East Austin.

The Garden Fair flyers in English and Spanish are avaiable at this web site:

Default East Austin Garden Festival - March 17, Don't miss the fun!

Austin Energy

Attention Ed Clark and Oscar Backus,

To all Neighbors/ Citizens of Austin we ask and call on you to contact City Council in support for the Tejano Music Museum

I shall speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve:
We are sick and tired of El Concilio in persons such as Gavino etc running our neighborhood like they are it! They are not it we the people are it ( eight little screamers are not us)

We vote yes for the museum! on Haskell

Queremos justicia

Envíe el conterars El Concilio de distancia

Liberate del acebo de su opresión

Danos la libertad o dame la muerte nos - Patrick Henry

For my own part, I consider it as nothing less than a question of freedom of oppression; and in proportion to the magnitude of the subject ought to be the freedom of the debate, freedom to experience religion here without oppression and limitations set by El Concilio. Freedom to make choices for the Holly land development through a fair and legal City government process. Freedom to exercise prayer meetings in private homes without the priest being run out of the Neighborhood. It is only in this way that we can hope to arrive at truth, and fulfill the great responsibility which we hold to God.. Certainley eight people of El Concilio can not continue the devastating path and stealing our freedom, and our right from us. We have the right to freedom of choice and speech and the right to be set free from the oppression that comes here by El Concilio. I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense or being threatened that they will get me.... they said the USA is the land of the free and the brave... why do are we being oppressed in Holly neighborhood by eight people called El Concilio.

Danos la libertad o dame la muerte nos

Why are the City of Austin and so many others apt to shut their eyes against a painful truth it is all over the newspapers just google Gavino Fernandez, and why to City Council continue to listen to their song. We had being engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty we spent one year in mediation with a military mediator to be set free but it did not happen? Are we just exposed to be of the number of those who, having eyes, see not, and, having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation?

Today we shout to all of Austin please we plea with you : For our part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, we are willing to spill the whole truth; to say the the worst, and spread the word of how we had being oppressed.

Longtime ago a comparison of groups such as them acting like they are the Godfathers were made - how sad for East Austin - how sad this day is that any person would still pay attention or listen to a group with such sad tac tics... Again they are slamming a perfect project for our area... it is time that the City put a higher priority on working with all the groups and people here rather than listening to a group of eight people that are far from being representative of us.

There is a simple but very appropriate comparison in scriptures a tree will known by its fruits: If all know about these fruits why do the City Council not ban groups with intimidation/ nasty tactics from City Hall and working with any City groups... certainly Austin Energy and the people of Austin know that nobody would allow a group as this to be their presentation any where .

We the people of Holly, black, white, brown have done everything that could be done to avert the storm which is now coming on. We have petitioned; we have demonstrated; we have supplicated; we have pleaded. Our petitions have been slighted; our request for help have produced additional violence and insult; our supplications have been disregarded; and we have been spurned, with contempt, we are left to ourselves! In vain, after these things, may we indulge the fond hope freedom and of peace. There is no longer any room for hope if things continue like this with El Concilio.

We wish to be free-- if we mean to preserve inviolate those inestimable privileges for which we have been so long contending--if we mean not basely to abandon the noble struggle in which we have been so long engaged, and which we have pledged ourselves never to abandon until the glorious object of our contest shall be obtained--we must fight! Because we will stand up for our right to be free from oppression from El Concilio! An appeal to the City to allow the Museum to be Build on Haskell street and to no longer pay attention to El Concilio

Last Friday's scheduled hearing in the case of East Austin neighborhood activist Gavino Fernandez Jr. has been rescheduled for July 11. Fernandez, leader of the El Concilio Coalition of Mexican-American Neighborhood Associations, has not yet been indicted on charges of aggravated assault and drug possession stemming from a May 22 incident at his home, says Albert Machado, his attorney. Machado adds that he "isn't sure" yet whether the feds will pursue an investigation related to allegations that Fernandez was involved in immigrant smuggling. Since his arrest, Fernandez has been incarcerated at the Travis Co. Jail. -- L.A.http://www.austinchronicle.com/news/2003-07-04/166674/

They sabotaged with negativity the building project of the Camacho Rec Center -- We all know how great the Center is and how well it serves our children.

Then their was the situation with Gavino Fernandez and El Concilio refusing to allow Fr. J. Mathias to get an zoning change for parking for Cristo Rey church - the Church really did need the parking. Gavino was fired by Fr. J. and then Gavino continued untill he got Fr. J. to go on temporary sabbatical, as soon as Fr. J. start church in his home El Concilio complain to the landlord and they place a notice of eviction on Fr. J. so the question remain... then next after Fr. J. post a letter on public site about a non profit church that use the Cristo Rey Church the poor Mexican American's fund to host a Austin City Council elections discussion & Fish Fry Plate $7.00 on Friday, March 23 @ 11:30am @ 2208 East 2nd street (candidates were invited). I wonder if any one informed the IRS? Then After this happened a letter was posted in the public by Fr. J. and it is unbelievable what happened next someone of I guess that group came and used his front porch and side walk for the most disgusting act ever and the following I quote from the letter that was posted "Please do not hesitate to call the police if you see Frances, Gavino or anyone else pulling down their pants on any of the properties of our neighborhood! In the meantime, let us continue to pray that the nastiness in our neighborhood stop...…"

Their were three attempts by the City to form a reasonable and fair platform for all people here to be liberated from El Concilio - however we all know how Gavino and others fight the attempt to spread fairness and justice for all. lets read together the following article now it talks about Gavino shouting that no one can talk o so I wonder then why he is talking about Bulling tactics in his letter/ flyer he send to all people mm... If I read the newsletter articles on Gavino regarding "aggravated assault" versus further being in charge of shouting so lout at a public meeting that nobody else can talk when the city merely trying to accommodate diversity of all people... then I think much rather Gavino and El Concilio is guilty of not showing respect to his one people/ or love/ or fairness or kindness. from there the idea arrive that El concilio sees themselves as the possible godfather to rule with fear and intimidation.

Here's one way to make certain a meeting goes your way – don't let anybody else talk, and shout down the neighbors. That was the approach taken by Gavino Fernandez and his El Concilioallies Monday night, at a Holly Street neighborhood meeting hosted by city staff at Metz Elementary School. The meeting was intended as the culmination of several months of work, stretching back to September, between city staff and neighborhood participants, in an attempt to establish aNeighborhood Plan Contact Team – a stakeholder group that helps implement the official neighborhood plan and makes recommendations to the city regarding proposed development projects. According to Neighborhood Planning and Zoning Director Greg Guern*sey, who attempted (without much success) to lead the meeting, this was the fourth such effort, stretching back several years, to establish a contact team for Holly Street – the first three had ended in failure." What purpose is there to the City providing fund to us for redevelopment etc. and what ever advisory committees if you continuously just listen to El Concilio - in the least to say it is like a bad dream to all of us here.

FYI: I’m swamped with our homes tour and all I can do is let you know what’s going on. They passed probably 1,000s of flyers tonight door-to-door all the way to I-35 and at the big event at the Ball fields tonight. The young adult who talked to me at my door said the museum is going to built on the ball fields and take all the parking away from Camacho Youth Center. I begged him to read our Tejano Trail guide because El Concilio was yanking his chain and he should – as an aspiring politician – to know both sides of the story. I was impressed with his passion – he promised to read about the Tejano music legends trail in the guide. I’ll be at Martin School on the Comal entrance from 10 am to 3 pm if you want to stop and chat.. I hope you have time to back up Raul. Too bad, so sad. Lori 478-6770

Hello Raul and Cynthia and Fr. Jayme,

You want to consider either calling cops for safety tomorrow with your meeting at lots - or just reschedule. El Concilio walked the neigborhood with a flyerr that go like this I quote:::: Just call it off we all will give you letters of support. I myself will go to the historical tour instead. But I do support your effort.

I retyped El Concilio's letter witht he correction on the spelling of "Musuem" ...

Dear Neigbors,

Join us the Saturday, April 14 2012 10 am at 2218 haskell Street to tell former City Council Member Raul Alvarez whom now is chair man of Alma thwt we Homeowners do not want a proposed Museum he is pushing, located at the current Pocket park next to the Holly Power Plant and adjacent to singel family homes. The City of Austin Energy displaced families from these lots to create a buffer zone in case of mergency at the Holly Power plant .

Council Member Mike Martinez is also behind this Bulling tactic. He would not do this in West Austin! We want Pic -nic tables, swings a playscape for our children, NOT a museum. Thats why the Mexican-American Center was built, TAKE IT THERE! UNITED WE WILL DEFEAT THIS PROPOSAL COUNCIL MEMBER MIKE MARTINEZ TOOK $175, 000 away from the Holly Mitigation Home Improvement Funds to repair our homes, for this museum . The Holy Mitigation funds were never intended to fund these projects like the Museum over home repairs for our Senior Citizens.

Join us Sat Aprill 14 at 10 am 2218 Haskell next to the Holly Power Plant to say no to the Muweum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gavino, Elisa Montoya

Raul,

That is to late - definately for me. If you have only one session I will prefer 10:00 like maybe we can do punch and cookies. Suggestion make sure people understand that there is not direct stress for EMF since it is limited exposure becaue of the limited times of the museum being open and that it is different than 24/7 exposure of previous homes that wee located there.

Maybe you can consider having two sessions if you wish 11:00 and then 6:45 in the evening. or Friday at 6:00 pm

Let me find out if my board is willing to do a clean-up. I hate to put the neighbors (whose support I want) to work doing a clean-up. So maybe ALMA can do the clean-up and we can just invite the neighbors to an information session at 11 AM (instead of 10 AM). Is that too late?

April 14 is Clean Sweep with Keep Austin Beautiful 9 – 11am with the volunteer party at Fiesta Gardens from 11:30 – 1:30 pm. Why not declare the museum site a cleanup project on the KAB website and invite the immediate neighbors to meet there for an overview and pitch in to pick trash on the site and that block of Haskell, then you’d get RSVPs and anyone who showed up who had RSVPd would get free lunch and a T-Shirt at the Fiesta Gardens volunteer party. It’s also the same date as our ECC Historic Homes Tour and I’m committed to host at Robert Weaver for that event. Just an idea of a way to broaden the appeal of the museum by showing some community service to the block of residents most affected. I doubt Gavino will show up or stick around for a cleanup, so the conversations would be more casual and with a dual purpose. Keep or toss this idea. Lori

Hi Raul,

maybe:: Rev. J. Mathias/ Lori Renteria/ Elizabeth Walsh/ Anna de Fretas:
(are better ways to assist you) -

I will gladly help you in any way I can. I have expressed my prior corncerns to you in regard to the EMF... however I am at peace now with it. I just had some unanswered corncerns at that time. I can spread the word for people to attent your proposed meeting on April the 14th. I can be there myself from ten to eleven, in the morning. Maybe you you wish to work with some of the new people althought this areas consist of mostly older residence; Gavino and many of his friends are on my street. I will support your effort with spreading the information, I will put a flyer on every mail box on block for you. I will show up - but you need to write the invitation.

Hi Zelda - I just realized the April 7th is the Neighbors Helping Neighbors event for the Holly Coalition. So, I will move my museum event until April 14th. Is that a good day for you? Again, the plan would be to have the event at 10 AM at the museum site. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks! - Raul --- On Mon, 3/19/12, Raul Alvarez wrote:

Thanks Zelda - No problem. Can I have the meeting in the morning, like 10 AM at the museum site? Would you be able to attend? I don't know if people would walk over to Camacho. If we have it there, then it may just seem like a broader community meeting and not something for the residents most affected. - Raul --- On Sat, 3/17/12, From: Raul Alvarez ;

Hi Zelda - Would you be willing to host a get together at your house on Saturday, April 7th to talk people on your street about the museum project? This would just be for people living on Haskell between Robert Martinez and the power plant. I would probably invite Joe Perez also. If you cannot host the meeting, no problem. We will just invite people to the museum site and put up some chairs. However, if we do that, then you know who will come and make a mockery of the whole thing and we won't actually get to discuss anything meaingful. Let me know what you think. I have a packet of information for you which I can drop off at any time. Thanks and hope all is well! - Raul --- On Sat, 2/18/12, Zelda Botha wrote:
