oh no!
I just purchased a rather nice fan palm and 2 of the 4 palm fronds are now
completely brown. It's been in the ground about a month, planted it with a
combination of sand, lady bug potting soil & "natural" soil. I haven't
watered it too much, (weekly, if no rain) I planted it at the same time I
planted a couple of red yuccas which are doing beautifully.

Any ideas, suggestions, comments???

My fan palms do that all the time. I remove them as close to the trunk as
possible, but carefully since those really sharp spines can tear a finger off.

It is only planted about 2' from a 6' wood privacy fence, do you think that
I should it should be further away, knowing that would mean I dig it up and
move back another foot or so???

Oh yes, that is much too close. A mature fan palm can reach a width anywhere
from 6 feet to 15 feet in diameter, depending on the type you have. My Mexican
fan palms are in the ground three years and are well over six feet tall and
eight feet in diameter. As it grows, the lower fronds turn yellow and brown and
I cut them off. They are not easy to move when they get larger.
