Bright Leaf Open House - Oct. 19th

If you like gardening, you probably like the outdoors. Come see Bright
Leaf State Natural Area here in Austin:

4th Annual Fall Bright Leaf Open House, an event to raise awareness
and interest in this outstanding resource and to generate funds for
its long term success.

The Friends of Bright Leaf State Natural Area will be hosting an open
house on Sunday October 19th from 2 to 5 in the afternoon. The event
is for the purpose of bringing awareness of the educational
opportunities currently available at the site and to make people aware
of the future plans for the site.

At the event there will be interpretive hikes of varying lengths which
cover the topics of flora, fauna, geology and land use history. There
will be children's activities and light refreshments will be
available.

Another purpose of this function is to raise awareness and funds for
the Bright Leaf SNA Lone Star Legacy Fund. Lone Star Legacy Funds are
endowments that have been established for each Texas Parks and
Wildlife site. The way theses endowments function is when the
principle on the endowment reaches $20,000 the park then able to spend
the interest on the endowment as well as anything above the principle
amount. These site endowments have been very successful and will be of
great importance to the long term operation of all Texas Parks and
Wildlife sites including Bright Leaf.

Attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather and wear comfortable
walking shoes. Pleas leave your pets at home.

Bright Leaf is located in central Austin. To get there take Loop 1
