Anybody knows where I can buy a few healthy OAK tree?
Home Depot and Lowes just don't have any good ones left.

There are many types of oaks, but the best buy I got was in the fall. I bought
a 5 gallon Bur oak for $16.96.

The Natural Gardener usually has a good selection of oaks. Which variety
were you looking for? Which part of town do you live? Knowing that would
help in selecting a good oak for your soil.

Thanks for the info. We live in NW Austin (between Spicewood Spring and
Anderson Mill). I'm thinking about a Live Oak, but not sure if that is good
for my soil.

A live oak would do fine. You might also want to check out a lacey oak
if they have it. It's got beautiful foliage and great fall color. It's
also disease resistant and very drought tolerant once established.

Different stores with the same names have completely different stocks
of trees. Suggest that you invest some time and check several options
before making a purchase.

In Nov. I shopped for trees at the St. John's HD, walmart on 290,
the 1-35 & Howard lane Lowes, HD & WM,, and the Lowes, HD, & WM in RR
and found it very interesting and worthwhile to go to the trouble of
checking them all. After all, these trees should be around a lot
longer than I will. Finally bought a burr oak at the RR, Lowes, an ash
tree from the HD off of St. John's and two pecan trees from the
walmart off 290.

You may want to call your target store(s) to try to get some kind of
report on their stock before you go out.

I live pretty close to you, and Live Oak are thriving all over my place!
The soil, if you can call it that, is really just rock with a dusting of
dirt. Those Live Oaks are very hardy, apparently, they live off sunshine and
an occasional drink of water.
