Web on rosebuds

One of my rose bushes has a bud with a tiny web on the bud. The bud edges
seem to be turning black. There was also some sort of black sticky stuff on
a nearby leaf that didn't look like it came from a bird. I did spray the
bushes last week with an insecticidal soap I got at HD. Any clues?

Sounds like the dreaded "black spot" -- I understand roses are
prone to it, but that's all I know. Hopefully someone more
knowledgeable can provide more info -- M9

You probably have thrips. Thrips are very tiny, almost microscopic insects
which live on the buds of roses and many other plants. The soap spray is good,
but you need to saturate the flower, and do that at least 4 times in a row, 3
days apart. Even then, you may not have total management of thrips. Neem is a
natural pesticide, aka Rose Defense and it is sold under a host of other brand
names, but it works too. Read all label directions
