? about peach trees
Hi,
I just moved into a house that has 2 peach trees in the back yard. They are obviously peach, but show no hint of fruit. Is there an ornamental variety that does not grow fruit? Will it bloom in the spring? Thanks, jojo |

I looked on the ground and found only one with a bite out of it. Hmnnn... squirrels or blue jays? Or both... I will not use the netting to protect the peaches. Birds and animals get ensnared and die trapped in that netting. So my advice is to NEVER use protective netting after I saw what happened to the birds and animals that got into it. Best -- Gae |

Well, I'm sure glad I looked at this conversation. I had a peach tree in my
yard when I moved in 3 years ago. I've watered it, and fed it and every year it would bloom right before the last freeze. As a result, no peaches. This year, however, one of the branches was loaded with peaches. I came out one morning and every peach -- even the ones on the ground around the tree -- were gone. I was furious that one of my neighbors had stolen them. But there are coons out here, so maybe they got them. I can quit plotting murder. "Gary Brady" wrote in message m... I don't mind the squirrels, but I sure do wish they'd eat the whole peach and not take one small bite out of them and move on! My 'Dixieland' is full of fruit and starting to get large now. What strange weather for this time of year. I wonder if it has delayed the peaches. Either say, hot pepper spray seems to deter total decimation of my peaches. I just wash them very well and don't use too strong a pepper spray solution. I went looking for your posts and couldn't find a single one since December. I thought... How boring... no Victoria posts! But here you are!! And I do think we need to have a little chat with those squirrels about their peach eating etiquette! if they cannot finish their plate they cannot come to the tree. LOL! Best to You! I have used netting to protect my veggies for years. Never had a bird or
animal trapped yet. In fact, my Mockingbirds and Bluejays are very ingenious in finding the very smallest opening to get into my tomatoes. Wished I could trap the little *******s and dispatch them for invading my garden. "Gae Xavier" wrote in message ... Maybe you were lucky, Jim, or maybe you never saw it happen. I have had
a rat snake almost die caught up in that netting until I cut him loose, and a little warbler got his leg all tangled up in the netting and was hung upside down in my fig tree. For me, it is not worth the chance to have something bad like that happen for a few figs or peaches. Tyler Truth be told, I am in near constant pain all the time, sometimes worse than others. I have learned to live within my limitations and I know them well. If this weekend is nice and dry, I will be out there even if I have to lay down to garden! My neighbors have passed me gardening from a prone position :) Not a pretty sight! Ooo, that's a nice destination place for the weekend. My sister in law goes to
the Ashram there. It's a beautiful place. V On Thu, 01 Jul 2004 14:00:17 -0500, Gae Xavier opined: Maybe you were lucky, Jim, or maybe you never saw it happen.
