I don't think it matters: any ordinary soil as long as it retains
moisture. Dappled shade a good idea?

Mike,

I thought it was probably a little on the alkaline side around 6.5 but
haven't been able to find any info. Thanks for your
help......................................Dan

I've got 3 tall phlox (paniculata) which do well on my alkaline soil.

Thank you Brian,

I always thought they needed slightly alkaline so I'll get it up around 6.8
and let you know what happens.

Thanks again....................................Dan

Most good plants want the pH around 6. Weeds do very well 8 and above,
blueberries do best between 4.5 and 5.5. Some flowers change colors when
the pH changes (blue in acidic and pink in alkaline).
