First Brandywine this season.
I picked my first Brandywine tomato today, the first of the season.lt
looked sad, deeply cracked and bits of it discoloured,if it had been on the supermarket shelf no one would have bought it.But I cut out the blemishes and made a sandwich.Believe me,after months of tasteless supermarket toms its flavour was incomparable - and it weighed 1lb.The plant is growing in a 6 x 8 greenhouse,the soil is organic, and the feed seaweed extract. The other plants are Green Zebra (for the very hot weather),Black Russian (for the frying pan), and Shirley (for She who must be Obeyed),plus one Jalapeno chilli pepper,all interplanted with parsley, plus a couple of French Marigolds to ward off white fly and redspider mite. It has been such a funny year weatherwise that crops have not been as good as usual out in the garden but what I have managed to grow is still good quality, and I have just sent off my order for autumn sowing to you know who in the Fens.
