Someone is using my name to post rubbish!

Please ignore these articles, I have complained to my isp and hope they can
do something about it.

The NNTP is quite different to yours, so I wouldn't worry that anyone here
thinks this stuff is from you. I'm pretty sure many of us have more than an
inkling as to who it is, though. Ignore it - best way to frustrate a fool.

Thanks, I don't know enough about finding the source of articles to be able
to identify them.

The same thing is happening on another uk.local newsgroup. All the fingers
point to one person, but I have a feeling that it is someone else because
the postings contain 'little clues' in the manner of his script and
language. It has been going on now for about 4 years and at sometime or
other, he will let slip and I will pounce.

It is blatently not you. The NewsProxy/nfilter filter is:

uk.rec.gardening DROP NNTP-Posting-Host: 195.252.61.139

For those who are interested.

Isn't the header info sufficient? A typical header is

The person I believe it is, is/has been associated with computers for a very
long time. I only punch the keys and don't have a clue on the headings,
paths, ISP's etc to be able to read the true ones from the mangled and false
ones. I post from one ISP and always use the same name. I 'know' that this
person, (well 99.9999% certain), that this person uses other names and
signatures.

Funnily I've not seen a couple of posts I did yesterday when they usually
appear within seconds, possibly been deleted somehow? Is it possible?

Don't worry Alan. We all know it isn't you. They all go back to school
next week. Rather an odd way to spend the last days of the school
holidays but it takes all sorts - it's a shame they don't have anything
more exciting to do.

It seems as though there are 2 sets of silly games being played. The
'flood' is obviously the result of pathetically infantile
schoolchildren and relatively easily dealt with. The second is a
personal attack on Alan Holmes and an attempt to publicly denigrate
him. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the culprit is much closer to
home and a user (abuser) of this ng. A quick look at the path (which
cannot be forged indicates what happened and where) though I'm not
sure whether the imposter can be traced and exposed. A pal of mine
who is absolutely brilliant at unraveling this sort of thing is away
on business unfortunately, but I'll see if I can persuade him to have
a go when I see him next.

No, it isn't, as it's possible to put any address in outlook express to
reply to newsgroup postings - hence by gibberish address, I could just as
easily have put Alan's though. BTW, I cut his out to prevent him getting
even more spam than he is going to get as a result of posting his address
;-(( !

Hi, new poster here. [Or new urger. See, I've even read the newcomers
FAQ thingy. That must be worth bonus points, if nothing else! :)] Been
lurking for a couple of weeks, slowly absorbing nutrients, uh, before
sending out my first, ahem, bloom.

To be honest, I almost dumped this group once this attack started. I've
used Usenet for quite a few years and have never seen anything quite so
persistently annoying and irritating as that desperate tirade. But I
battened down the hatches [for the duration, killing anything over 50
lines], and I'm now hoping to pick up some good tips here. However, I
was taken by your...

relatively easily dealt with.

....comment, Dave. As it sounds like an episode that might occasionally
be repeated in here, so was I missing something in the headers? Only, I
didn't see anything obvious to apply a rule on - aside from the somewhat
drastic pruning that a 50+ line cut-off made.

While I'm here then...

Fairly new to gardening. Long story short... My 'sporting life' was cut
somewhat dramatically short, and after a good few years of hoping
against hope and generally floundering in my spare time, I suddenly
caught myself watching Gardeners World and... GULP!... Enjoying it!! :)

So, here I am, about 2 years [or growing seasons] down the line and full
of enthusiasm. I'm hoping that some of you good folk might help with
some of my mistakes and, who knows, I might even have the confidence to
share advice with some of things that have seemingly gone right. Umm,
always assuming I know why they've gone right, of course! :)

Sorry to hear about whatever it is that curtailed the sport but you've found
yourself a wonderful new interest. The people here are mostly very friendly
and the pooled knowledge is fantastic. Dave and I live in South Devon
(Torquay and nr Totnes, respectively) and others live in Bristol and also in
Devon. Ask away and don't forget the archives in Google carry a lot of good
info, too. Welcome to urg!
