Pruning A Holly ?

I have a male holly bush which, like me, is becoming too broad in the beam
for the space it occupies in my small garden. The height is OK at about
seven foot but I need to control and trim the girth.
What is the best time of year to do this ?
It doesn't have berries and we don't use it for Xmas decoration.
Apart from its beauty, its other function is to act as pollinator to a
female bush a short distance away.

Whenever you get around to it. It is very forgiving. For appearance
sake, early spring is a good time, and it will shoot profusely from
where you have cut it back.
