Visiting EDEN 2006?

Hi

We would like to visit the Eden project next spring sometime.
Anyone down that way like to give us a hint of what the weathers usually like at
the end of March??
Cold - wet - sunny ??

Is it also very busy at that time of year?

TIA

Yes. All of those.

It will become particularly busy around Easter.

Not sure about the weather. But take no notice of any publicity or their website. Phone for opening/closing times. Take your own food!

Recently had a group of their gardeners here to talk Clematis and was
chatting about the outside bits which seem to have come on a lot since the
start. My impression was they now have quite a number of very enthusiastic
and talented gardeners working there (which must be good!) March is a good
time in Cornwall if you like Camellias, Rhodo's and Magnolia's however my
favourite time is definitely September I just love the big Fuchsia's like
boliviana and the Tibouchina's Cassia's etc. As to weather its always wet
and cold (or potentially so)regardless of when you come, so come when it
suits you, you could have a cracking few days or end up with webbed feet, no
way of knowing :~)

My wife went this year end of march/early april she was very impressed with
outdoor bulb planting, also very impressed with the whole project.
Her advice would be to go when you can and enjoy.
But do have comfortable walking shoes and remeber a lot of it is under glass
see here for more info

regards and enjoy your visit,

Let's hear it for the national Botanic Garden of Wales, if it's
managed to survive. Wonderful place, and lots of other stuff to do in
the area. Maybe rather drier than Cornwall, too?

How does Eden rate on the conservation scale? I haven't been there,
and know nothing about it, but all that glassware looks dodgy from an
energy-consumption point of view.

Its not glass, its a double skin of some sort of high tech plastic with air
between (they are really quite thick when seen close to, 1' or more) and is
extremely energy efficient, the individual panels behave rather like
magnifying glasses.

In fact it's a triple or quadruple layer of a plastic related to PTFE,
so it's non-stick, dirt washes off very easily and it's more
transparent to sunlight than glass, as well as being very strong and
highly insulating. The 'cells' are lightly pressurised with dry air to
give that lens or fly's eye appearance, and they're about two metres
thick apparently. But there is no focussing or lens effect, as the
refractive index inside the lens is the same as outside, i.e. air. But
I'm always amazed when they have firework displays there. All those
glowing embers from spent rockets falling on pressurised plastic
sheet.....

Been watching the BBC special on Eden. WOW - it's come a long way in a few
years!
We were there when it was being built.........
Pity I'm not keen on bulbs. We might postpone our visit till later in the

It's worth taking the tours of the biodomes. You see a lot that you might
miss otherwise.

Did you watch the very good gardening program on German WDR last
night? They showed the ultimate in roof gardens.
Martin

No - I tend not to watch any of the German channels.......... was it good?
