I hope I may ask for help on this one, although it's not strictly gardening.
I've started off a hyacinth bulb growing over water for my daughter. It has
now developed some roots and the top is growing. The problem is that there
are three small shoots growing almost from the base of the bulb (at about
seven o'clock). Should I break off these shoots before they get any bigger,
please?

Thank you

Daphne

No, these will become new bulbs for your daughter to plant.

Thank you very much, Rusty/Jaques. If they become so large they are pushing
the bulb out of the glass, would it harm the bulb to take them off, please?

They should develop into small bulbs, usually they can be separated by
carefully breaking them off at the base. You can then plant them out, or
in pots.

No. It will not harm the bulb.
