What is a semi breave? ;-))

I guess a semi b'reave is when you're feeling half dead. A semibreve is a
whole note :-)

A breve is a whole note.

I beg to differ. A breve is two whole notes.

at least it is in Italy and the UK.

I have just checked your site. Your are right. Apols. It figures as
in the USA a quarter note is a crotchet. Senior moment:)

Well, quite a few of us are getting old and crotchety. Amusingly
enough, one of the examples in the OED for the first meaning of
the word 'breve' is "He was tempted to revoke his breves." You
have just done so :-)

Nick Maclaren.

No need to apologise, thanks all the same, it's all too easy to mix up these
obscure notations :-)
