Chrysomelidae francoa altrovulgaris
 

I have just received this plant,along with other weirdoes', as a belated
Christmas present from a friend . One of those "who can outdo the other"
presents.
None of my ref books have anything about this , although I can find Francoa.
Over to the experts.

You're lucky. Never heard of Francoa, altrovulgaris doesn't exist and
chrysomelidae is an insect, a beetle, brown and yellow. Quite an
amasing plant indeed ...

Francoa is rather pretty. Have a look at this for a pic and some details

Thanks for the picture I already grow Francoa .Wonderful plant as it stays
evergreen and if protected by fleace you can start the flowering period a
little earlier.

Francoa is a fairly common plant. I think altro is used to give emphasis to
a plant characteristic.?
I guess your knowledge on these things is much greater than mine.

Well the Francoas themselves are well behaved and spread fairly
slowly-although they do self seed readily. This is a variant or mutant of
Francoa.
Somewhere there is a reference to Hookerii by Lineaus and Sinkimmensis comes
in somewhere.

La Puce was correct about the alto bit it should have read atro. My guess is
this means it's common to the extent of being vulgar or very prolific.

Not atm, but I will be able to get as much seed as anybody wants after
flowering. If you want it for spring sowing, Chiltern seeds sell it.
