It matters quite a lot where you are and what direction the fence faces.

In South Wales the fence is on the north/east side gets the morning sun

Right. Then NOT Campsis x taglibuana or several others.

Most honeysuckles, most clematis etc. You should fix some wire or
netting for all of those (plus Akebia quinata). Clematis armandii
is excellent, and is evergreen and flowers vigorously and with a
strong scent in spring. You may succeed with Holboellia.

Virginia creeper and climbing hydrangea (and relatives) will self
cling, and the latter do flower.

Nick Maclaren.

Won't the honeysuckles just head for the top and then point all their
flowers towards the neighbour's side?

Not if they are the 'northern' varieties and kept hacked back, er,
pruned at intervals. At least L. periclymenum and L. japonica
are happy with a northern aspect, if gets a fair amount of light.
L. x tellmanniana isn't. I haven't tried others in that location.
