Howard rotavator spares - where?
 

People may remember that I posted here a couple of years ago, asking
how to get a Merry Tiller to actually do something useful and then
solving the problem by buying a Howard rotavator to replace it.

Well the Howard has done sterling work over the past couple of years
but it now needs some servicing. I've managed to take it apart (after
a certain amount of bad language) and there's not too much wrong with it
but it does need some parts.

The main thing it needs is new bearings for the shaft that the tines
run in, probably a new drive chain and maybe a new tiller shaft. The
bearings (I guess, there's nothing left of them!) are 'bronze bush'
type ones. Does anyone know of any suppliers that specialise in
Howard Rotavator spares?

By the way it would be useful to identify the model I have, I *think*
it's a Howard 350 but I'm not absolutely sure. It has a Kohler K141
engine and a two speed and reverse gearbox. There are two sets of
four tines on each side (i.e. 16 altogether), half straight and half L
shaped. I would have posted a picture but didn't think to take one
before taking it apart! :-)

The Howards are so common there could well be a supply or supplier of

The bearings should be needle-roller types, bronze bushes would not
stand up to the workload. The part numbers you require are 253037264
and 252530382 (the needle cage and the outer come as separate items).
The drive shaft and sprocket is part number 64364 and the drive chain is
64393.

Was this in response to a question, as the subject would indicate? Odd
to have the person describe himself in the third person.
My only contacts with a Howard rotavator were the monstrous one my dad's
neighbor had (they're not common in the U.S.) and the one that figured
large in an episode of "Good Neighbors," I think known as "The Good Life"
in its own land.

contact, duly noted in Favourites, and considering how often we get
questions regarding old rotovators nice to have another contact.

It was a new thread so not apparently in response to anything. The
"" in the subject is a standard spam disguise in my experience.

A trivial Google search turns up tillerparts.com immediately, I knew
the site already (I have a Howard 350). I wasn't all that impressed
with the response I got from tillerparts.com either, although there is
a web site the only contact possible is by phone which is a bit
awkward.

Does anyone else have any experience of buying parts from tillerparts.com?
In the end I got most of the spares I needed from a local repair man
who had what I needed secondhand so I didn't actually try tillerparts.com.

For what it's worth the new spares I've bought for my Howard Rotavator
have been from Davenports - http://www.davenport.gb.com/, they
responded to an enquiry of mine here.
