Unwell Chinese Windmill Palm

Xref: news7 uk.rec.gardening:132329

Hi There,
Can anybody please help with my ailing Windmill palm?
The full name is Trachycarpus Fortunei (Chama Erops Exelsax)
It is quite mature, about three feet tall, in a large pot,and in a sunny West
facing aspect.
The problem is,over a period of time.the leaves (old and new) have started
to yellow evenly all over.
This would suggest to me an iron deficiency, but I feed it with a palm
fertilizer, which should contain all the nutrients it needs.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Colin

After a point, it is no use adding liquid fertiliser ad nauseam to compost
which has really had it - just wasteful of the environment and your money. I
would say try getting it out, try to get a substantial fraction of the
compost out of its roots, use a bigger pot if possible with brand new top
quality compost, and maybe mix in some slow-release.

Obviously if it's only been in there a short time then this doesn't apply!

Don't give up hope just yet Colin.

Trachies are a very tough breed of palm.

They do tend to show quite a bit of yellowing at this time of year, but they
do tend to pick up as the summer arrives.

Is there any chance of you putting it in the ground because it will be a lot
happier there (don't worry about hardiness, I live up in Perth and my two
Trachies have survived temperatures down to -15 degrees!).
