Mower petrol tank leak!

My Flymo L47 Pilot petrol valve is leaking were it goes into the tank. I've
just called at the mower service shop and he says that the threads have gone
on the tank and it will cost £45.00 for a new tank.
The mower is 9 years old now so cannot justify the cost ....can I seal it up
somehow? maybe with silicon or araldite?

If you go with silicon, then i would use "instant gasket" from your
local auto parts shop.

Get some Plumbers PTFE tape - about 50p a roll, wrap about 3 inches around
the thread and tighten with a wrench - if it seals high pressure water
pipes, it'll seal a petrol pipe !!

JB Weld will sort it.. I stitched a Land Rover engine block with the
stuff!
Make sure you thoroughly degrease the parts to be fixed first
