Best way to plant potatoes?

Someone told me the modern way is to place them on the ground and do the
earthing up at the start. And cover with polythene.
What do you reckon?

That has worked for lots of people.
Has the advantage you can pull the polythene back to reveal tubers.
Pick the ones you want.
Put the plastic back and let the remainder carry on growing.

YMMV

That works but the hulms look for the nearest light and come up all over the
place instead of in neat rows. We use a bulb planter to plant and earth up
as they grow in the traditional manner.
