fast grower recommendation please

Hi

I am looking for a tree/shrub that is a fast grower- to give more
privacy from houses overlooking at back of the garden. Want something
that can grow to about 20-30 feet and be fairly wide.
Live in the South, very clay soil and back of garden is fairly shady.

thanks
R.

Leylandii will do this very well as long as you take out the top to stop it
growing beyond the desired height, but is something of a thug and thus not
generally popular with neighbours.
Eucalyptus is a fast grower and much prettier.

One unusual one to try is Azara dentata or Azara serrata, evergreen multi
stem shrubs the get to around 15/18 feet and stop with a spread of around 4
m at the top. Profuse yellow petal-less flowers with garden filling scent in
about 2 weeks time (in sw19).

Mine has been in 6/7 years and is now those dimensions.
