In message .com,
Martín Ezequiel Garzón writes Greetings to all! Does anybody know the name of this flower? http://personales.ya.com/megarzon/flower.jpg Thanks a lot! Martin Its appears to be a daisy with all ligulate flowers. That would make it likely a member of tribe Lactuceae, most of which have yellow flowers. Tragopogon porrifolius (Salsify) is the only one that comes to mind with purple flowers. I'm more used to see this, or rather the commoner relative Tragopogon pratensis (Goatsbeard), side on, where the long, narrow, phyllaries (bracts) are very obvious, but you can see them sticking out beyond the ligules in your photograph. So, if photgraphed in Britain, it's almost certainly Tragopogon porrifolius. Stace mentions a Tragopogon hybridus which occurs very occasionally in Britain, with pink-purple ligules, and I don't know what can be found in the rest of the world. -- Stewart Robert Hinsley |
