Full size Nictiana - any sightings in garden centres?
 

Hi,

looking for some full size Nicotiana instead in the short F1 hybrids which
have been around for the last few (many) years.

I can order online from Thompson&Morgan, but wondered if anyone had seen
these in any of the major chains?

Take a look at www.coffinails.com
Sells several varieties of full size Nicotiana Tabacum seeds at very
reasonable prices with full cultivation instructions and a growers'
forum on the site. You don't have to dry and cure the leaves if you
don't want to. They're an impressive plant, growing to 6 feet or more
with attractive pink or white flowers.
Might be a bit late to start from seed now, though.

I've never seen either e.g N. sylvestris or N. mutabilis in garden
centres.

What are you after, the colour or the scent? And how large is 'full
size'?
If it's the scent you are interested in, try growing N sylvestris, which
grows easily to 5ft, with long necked white flowers and a powerful
scent. It's a bit of an attractant for whitefly, which don't seem to do
it any harm. You can over winter it under cover (cut it back hard) or
grow it easily from seed each year.
