How do you find a good person to completely clear a garden?
There is a lawn - and around it borders that are choked with weeds and
shrubs.
The idea is to remove all vegetation in the borders and extend the lawn
to the boundary.
I reckon there is about a hundred square metres to clear and remove
rubbish from.

How do you find good people to do these jobs?
People who are honest, reliable, and good at what they do?

There is _no_ way except personal recommendation. You need to find someone
in the local area who has had gardening work done for them - or, of course,
do it yourself.
Then you may even find that you get to know some of that vegetation
intimately, and can't bear to destroy it all.

This reply is off-topic, Chris, and none of my business anyhow. But are
you quite sure you want a garden with nothing but lawn? If you've
already thought that through, are you sure you have a site on which
good grass will grow right to the edges? (I'm assuming, of course, that
you plan a mowing strip of bricks or something at the extreme edges:
you won't get a mower right up to a fence.)

There's many volunteers who would help - though expenses and food is
often appreciated. Why don't you approach CSV in your area. I was once
one of them but I was then in the media, not horticulture. You could
also check out your local colleges, especially if they do Land
Industries. I'm sure, there again, that with some expenses paid and
some food/refreshments, it would be an interesting project for them to
do.

Failing that, there's local gardeners. On average they take £10/£14
per hour. That's in my locallity. Where do you live and what do you
call 'rubbish'?

Come on ned, do you know of "ANY" job, paid for or DIY which has ended
'within budget'?????? ;-))

Doing a DIY Verandah over the Patio right across the back of my house now
.............. waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy over budget because 'well we
could just add this' and a 'so and so would be nice'.

The 'only' original which hasn't altered, is the distance out from the
house, 2.5 metres because we then come to raised ground and banks of flower
beds. Width? Wider ;-))

Can I offer my services as a project manager?
No agreed spec - you can't have a realistic budget.
Agreed - and adhered to, spec - should be within an accurately costed
budget.
