Cost of Garden Centres versus Nurseries

"......All the plants have been extremely well packed and good quality. You

generally it has enabled me to buy some unusual plants without having to
travel miles ;-)..."

You should try the real cost of selling plants on E bay.
I have sold a few without reserve, and with £2.50 P&P I have ended up making
less than 50p on a plant.
There is the listing charge, the selling commission, the cost of accepting
payment by card, Box, packing time, and Postage, not to mention time and
fuel to get to the Post office.
Not the way to get Rich.

And I have had a few good buys on line as well.
Though my Variegated Horse radish this year is plane green,

I have thought about selling some surplus plants on Ebay but it is
definitely worth being very selective and see what buyers are prepared to
pay 'lots' for ;-) But it is a good way to buy plants, from my experience!

Off topic - last year I sold a lot of old Lego, that had belonged to my
children, on Ebay. It is amazing how much I sent to Japan!

Recently I have bought quite a few plants online...several of them via Ebay
auction.

Indeed.. I have bought from both Janejanelane nurseries and
Joannasplants. Both have been satifactory..

The only exception I make is on the rare occasions that a garden centre
has a plant that is not easily available elsewhere, or is but it would
cost similar if you included postage etc.. Bought a Ribes speciosum
today.. a tenner for a medium pot.. Well overpriced IMO but I know I
will not find them in too many place and I have wanted one for a while..

Hmmm - we had a customer asking for that one yesterday and we don't have it
BUT the Plant Finder says there are more than 30 suppliers, which means it's
not by any means a rarity and that should be reflected in the price. Of
course, like anything else one really wants, if you find it, then it's worth
it to you.

I think CGF may be getting an order and visit from me soon though.

ALso made it up to Capels Spring Show at the weekend.. A reasonable
range of plants from small sellers, and the 'Clematis Guy' was there
with the ususal 3 for a tenner offer.
