I have just taken over an allotment,and am about to order 4 kilos of potato
seedlings for next year......my plot is 10 rods i only want to have about a
quarter of this area with potatoes.How far will will 4 kilos go...

More to the point how many people do you intend to feed with these potatoes
and have you somewhere to store them over winter that's dark and dry and
cool?
No point in growing stuff to rot or give away.

But if she is producing ten times as much as she can use, there is not a lot
of point to doing that!

I find that about one Kg of seed potatoes is enough to provide potatoes for
two of us for almost a whole year.

I usually find that 2.5-3kgs. does about 2 or 3 x 20 foot rows but it all
depends on the size of the seed potatoes. I normally plant about two rows
of earlies (Charlotte) and two rows of maincrop (Cara) and that feeds 2-3
people until about Easter plus prodigal childen returning for supplies when
money gets low. Although this year it looks as though the maincrop won't be
as good as normal so I won't be so generous. The best bet would be to ask
local allotmenteers for which varieties suit the local soil conditions.
