Spray bans broken

An expert in the use and distribution of biological controls has just been
here. He told Ray that some European countries are under a strong spotlight
because their growers are still using sprays which are officially banned.
Apparently, some of the crops worst affected are peppers, aubergines,
tomatoes, cucumbers etc. In some cases, when polytunnels are taken down,
the plastic is found to be heavily impregnated with these chemicals. Now,
however, much tighter controls are coming into operation and random checks
being made. If any of the crops are found to be contaminated with these
poisons, the whole place is banned from selling to the supermarkets.
However, Ray asked why more wasn't being made of this and the fact that UK
growers aren't using banned chemicals. "Because the supermarkets don't want
it known" was the answer. Buy British!

Bean crop, Tesco had Guatemalan bean for sale and not a British bean in
sight.

I gave up on Tesco years ago for that sort of reason.
