Allotment 'Theft' ?

Just wondered what the 'legal' situation might be for the following
situation?
A plot with greenhouse (not assembled) and a compost bin plus one or two
other bits and pieces on it.
Not having attended the plot recently as moving home soon I went to retrieve
said items and found them missing.
Checked around and found them on a nearby plot so removed same without
further ado as I have plans for them at new home.
My tenure was paid up to end of year and these items were moved prior to
that. On a charitable note it may be the person responsible may have thought
I was not coming back but surely this is actually theft.
Anyway I would like to see his/her face when he/she discovers their
nefarious work was in vain.
Q. What would you have done?

I have been in this position. A quick, friendly note stating my
position and giving carte blanche for sharing if I ever died and left
the garden plot unattended did the trick!

If this fails a good kicking often works.
