Ratchet secateurs

Ratchet secateurs have been on sale at the annual Daily Mail Ideal
Home Exhibition for many years but very few shops stock them. Is
there anything wrong with them? They seem to be able to prune thick
branches that bypass or anvil secateurs cannot deal with.

I was bought a pair as a present and found them very good for thick
branches but less good than other secateurs for thin stuff.

Also, they fell apart rather quickly.

That was exactly our experience. I wouldn't buy them again.

I bought a pair last year at the Ideal Home and Ive got to say that
they are great on thick stuff but useless on thin. So I carried
around two pairs.
