Cats and Rabies
Someone has emailed me with the question, what happens if cats get
Rabies? The way the vermin travel at will all over other people's gardens and the countryside, and now an epidemic, how long before they pass it to humans? You're worrying unnecessarily! It's ssssoooo hard for humans to get rabies,
but you can get vaccinated at the docs for it. House pets have to be vaccinated for it anyway when they get their pedigree. Charlie. "Mike" wrote in message ... You've got more chance of getting knocked over by a car whilst crossing the
road than getting rabies! Answer! Don't cross any more roads Mike! (I bet you will though). Badger "Mike" wrote in message ... "Mike" wrote in message ... Someone has emailed me with the question, what happens if cats get Rabies? For a very log time now, the anti-rabies precautions have managed to ensure, bats notwithstanding, that rabies has not managed to establish itself as endemic in the UK. Hence, the only ones that are likely to be exposed are those who go on foreign holidays and, like the far higher number of dogs that go travelling abroad, they have to be vaccinated against rabies and microchipped if they want to avoid quarantine on their return. Yes I will, but at least I will be careful, not like Paddy who fell out of the window whilst ironing his curtains. I had a rabies vaccination in Vienna as a child after a dog bit me. I don't remember much about it, but people tell me it's a painful treatment. But foxes almost certainly come into closer, more frequent and regular contact with people and pets than do bats. Having bats in the roofspace means I see more bats than I do foxes - especially as this is a rural area and all the foxes have long since wised up to the silly-buggers on horseback and settled for easier pickings in the local towns.... and now we're plagued with rabbits. Thank gawd for the buzzards! ( On-thread note: Would a buzzard take a cat?? ) I first heard about bat rabies when I took an injured bat along to Gilbert White's house, where there's a lovely lady "wot knows all about 'em". I had to hand-feed mealworms to the little critter, and having been told to keep it nice and warm I put it up in my heated propagator for a couple of days, where it perked up far better than any of my seedlings have ever done. Well, we had to have all ours done (two dogs and a cat) before they were 12
weeks old. Maybe things have changed recently. Charlie. wrote in message ... On Sat, 19 Apr 2003 15:08:08 +0100, "Charlie" wrote: You're worrying unnecessarily!
