Default How long chitting please?

I have bought a potato growing set of 3 tubs & some seed potatoes from
Dobies mail order. They have arrived & i have placed the spuds on the window
sill in egg boxes as per instructions to wait for them to 'chit'
How long do they take to sprout? Can i speed them up at all?
Regards,
Beefheart.

I don't think you can speed them up but at this time of year I would put
them straight in without chitting

You will not speed them up. In any case that would not be beneficial as
you need sturdy, well ballanced growth.
Best to turn the boxes frequently so that the light is shared equally.

Yeah, I wouldn't bother about chitting now either.

You don't *need* to chit spuds - all those one left behind in the soil
seem to manage fine to come up the next year :-) The real benefit seems
to me is to get them going a bit early in the year so they have a head
start. Hence why we start doing it in late winter.

No point now.
