I've just bought two gorgeous Hostas at DCS. One is called Fire Island and
has lime green leaves with reddish stems and the other is A Touch of Class with a beautiful bluish variegation to the leaves. I also bought three lovely orchids called Dendrobium Anna Green which have a fabulous green flower with a burgundy centre. Ray was absolutely amazed and delighted to find a plant of 'his' that he'd lost. He discovered this Argyranthemum sport in the garden here and named it 'Saimi' after a Finnish friend. He gave some to the then head gardener at Bicton College and lo and behold they were displaying and selling it on their stand 15 or more years later! And to crown it all, our exhibit won a Gold Medal - a good day all round! -- Sacha http://www.hillhousenursery.co.uk (remove weeds from address) Devon County Show 17-19 May http://www.devoncountyshow.co.uk/ |

I have transplanted my beloved hostas to a relatively slug free zone - currently they are surviving under a hedge area! Regards Lil |

It's lovely to have a success, even in a small way and it's a reflection on all the staff who are just as thrilled as we are. They're just such a terrific, supportive crowd that this is as much theirs as anyone's. -- Sacha http://www.hillhousenursery.co.uk (remove weeds from address) Devon County Show 17-19 May http://www.devoncountyshow.co.uk/ |

That's a tropical Dendrobium if I remember correctly and a bit exacting on requirements. -- Regards Bob H |

I asked them about it and they said cool room, water from the bottom etc. I hope they're right. I can't remember the name of the Orchid nursery so I'll ask someone to look for me tomorrow. The people I bought it from brought it into this country a year ago, I think. -- Sacha http://www.hillhousenursery.co.uk (remove weeds from address) Devon County Show 17-19 May http://www.devoncountyshow.co.uk/ |
