I am very fond of Fuchsias and earlier this week I was wandering and looking
at fuchsias in my local garden center, I found several that I liked,.
Fuchsias are so easy to propagate I wondered how many people do snip bits
off and take them home ? If anyone from Coinros just outside Lydney Glos.-
well worth a visit if you are in the area - is reading this, no, I didn't
steal any bits I am coming back to buy the plants as soon as I can :-)

As you go round Garden Centres etc, just look at the people who are
discreetly 'hiding' little 'Doggie Bags'. No not for picking up their dog
mess, but little bags to take a snipping.

Seen it. Not too often I hasten to add but seen it.

Admission. A lot of our hedges are from when we did just that on or from
overhanging hedges on the Cliff Path near us.

And here is a tip to newbie gardeners with bare gardens or those who want to
start from scratch and ask 'What will grow?' The answer? Whatever is growing
in neighbour's gardens :-))

I do. I just can't help it - but not fuchsia because I don't really
like them. I've just took/done over 10 cuttings from hedges bordering
an old college near my home - viburnum tinus, hydrangea macrophelia (I
think the quadricolour one, hopefully), and the oak leaf one. I don't
feel bad - but I would from a garden centre and I have never took from
one. I wouldn't from a botanic garden or a park, and I have done it
many times - I would actually imagine that my garden are perhaps 40%
'stolen' cuttings :o)

Careful. There might be a stolen viburnum bettle in the stolen viburnum.

Had one two years ago. Nightmare, you have to have the whole plant away and
burn it. And the smell is terrible.

You'd know. The smell is vile. It beetle poo I think, and you see the
undersides of the leaves all beetley.

It is incurable and you can't dump it either, you have to burn it in situ,
and it infects everything.

I can't describe what the smell is like, cos it isn't like anything else,
but it's pungent, a sort of rotten smell, quite unbearable.

I hope you don't get it, but of course, if you do, it will be just
retribution for stealing the cutting in the first place :-)

Actually !!! I'm ok and it's you who didn't get the turn of my
sentence!! I said "I don't feel bad (taking cuttings) but I would from

damm right it smells especially if it gets damp, after the rain when we
moved in we thought oh god we've got drain problems but with some help from
here and a couple of sprayings in autumn and spring we have a very healthy
hedge - still need to clear more of the dead leaves from the base but much
less odiferous

I quit over ten years ago at the same time as the Mrs. Not had a smoke since
and certainly no desire to do so.
I'd given up several times for varying durations prior to the successful
giving up. The key to success seemed to be one of mental attitude. The first
few failed times there was an attitude of "I'm trying to give up smoking" -
which just seems to cause internal strife. The successful attitude was "I
don't smoke". and "I'm a none smoker". If you take that attitude you've
already won. Never torment yourself saying "I'd love a smoke" - if you do
it's be thin end of the giving up wedge. Just move on. It gets easier.
Eventually you'll regard cigarettes as objects of contempt.
