Everybody world wide who have walked A.W's Coast to Coast walk St Bees to
Robin Hoods Bay over the last 25 years will have had some contact with
Doreen Whitehead at Keld. Either her excellent Bed & Breakfast guide or if
you were extremely lucky to stay over night at East Stonesdale Farm or Butt
House over the past 24 years.

A. Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk

Many of your readers at home and abroad may wish to hear some news regarding

Doreen & Ernest Whitehead from Keld where they operated a Bed & Breakfast

establishment for Coast to Coast Walkers, Herriott Way and the Pennine Way.

Offering them tea ,scones and cream cake on arrival for over 25 years, then
the best

Four course farmhouse dinner anywhere, not forgetting her enormous
Breakfast. All

the services will end when they both retire in September 2007

With her exceptional organising skills, she also published the very first
B/B guide in

1985 for the Coast to Coast guest houses, hotels to advertise their services
in every

village on route( Since it has been copied many times)Her booklet sold all
over the

world and it will continue to be published.

The most famous person she had at Keld( but not to stay over night) was
Alfred

Wainwright to enjoy her special tea and cake he also stopped there on other

occasions. She also featured with him in the Coast to Coast film on the BBC
TV.

Her talents and enthusiasm for catering spread far and wide in the Dales.
Farmers

Market Hawes, Wedding and Wakes. Not forgetting her supportive husband
Ernest

Whitehead MBE, who has been the chairman for the Muker annual show for more

than 25 years

Doreen & Ernest will be travelling across the Coast to Coast from St Bees to
Robin

Hoods Bay as luggage support with seven friends pushing a Silver Cross pram
in

order to raise money for 3 Charities Anthony Nolan Trust, R.N.L.I. and the
British

Lung Foundation
