Depends what you want to compost. Household waste mainly then go for
plastic.
For garden waste then the old-fashioned wooden bin of at least a cubic metre
is best. And even better if you line it with polystyrene to insulate it so
it stays hot.

My Urban Dalek is overrun with slugs - if you listen carefully you can hear
them chewing, so they must be helping the composting process, but they're
disgusting. How can I discourage the slugs but not kill the other useful
beasties?

I sued wooden pallets but they rotted into the ground within a year and
made a terrible job of being dislodged so I could clear down the compost
heap!

Thank you for your comments.

We too have decided that the Plastic Dalek things are not all that good and
are in the process of making wooden ones again.

Thanks for the replies

We bought a plastic Dalek type compost bin from th ecouncil for £8 inMay yesterday we emptied to turn and moved to another part of garden.

I do think the wooden ones woudl be better but do not have room.

First time composting for ourseleves but also have a garden waste bin that gets emptied every 2weeks.
