Hi, thanks for all of your messages!

First of all, thankyou for pointing out the spelling mistakes. I know
they are there and will be proof reading and correcting them as soon as
possible. Having lots of work to do and no internet access at home means
these things happen

Don't worry about it, everyone else is perfect and knows everything!

Also, im not a web designer by any means, this is my first attempt at a
website. Although I am happy to take critisism (I know the site isnt
perfect), im just happy to have achieved anything at all! Just as a
note, the website wont work unless you have flash on your computer.

I liked it, it was fresh and clean. And why on Earth does anyone who Knows
About Computers NOT have Flash?

I don't have a 'Flash' and I'm sure if I did 'Flash', someone would complain
about it!(:-)

As for my design specialism, I am a '3D Designer', which basically
means I can design a pretty broad range of products. I am not an
engineer or an architect however, so the boundaries are only with what
I have the skills to do.

I understood that.

It's reasonably simple and well done in my opinion. I've seen far worse.
Variouys sections are animated - but only when first drawn on your screen.
There are no continuous annoying animations like some sites.
Colin

Love the sits and the idea! And the animations are fast and fun (not those
b....y Flash ones that you have to watch ever time you change a page!! )

However I can't think of a product to be designed..................

I would expect that the more one knows about computers the less likely one
is to have Flash.

Your suspicions are correct Nick, but so many sites use it nowadays that you
must be missing a lot of stuff on other sites too?

I like the fact that there seem to be spelling mistakes. I never see them
and it makes me feel a LOT better about my terrible spelling (in all
languages!) Thank goodness for the spelling checker "~))

Has anyone got any ideas for her? The website is just to kick start her

I tend to find that people who are good with their hands (3d design?) are
sometimes not too great at spelling........ The reverse often applies too.

I always say, 'There's no such thing as bad publicity, ............ unless
your name is Ratner' !!!
In selling, one is 'taught' to turn a bad reaction or bad publicity into a
good point, "Ah yes, but had you thought ....... " etc etc etc. "Of course
our product is more expensive than XYZ's, look at the added benefits ..... "
etc etc etc.

I agree with yoo theer ;-) BUT, this newsgroup is full of perfect people who
never make mistakes. :-((

I agree. I'm old so my website is staid with no flash or sound or cartoons
or pictures or spelling mistakes - and it's kept up to date. It does its job
but I'd like to have the skill to make one as appealing as hers.

I have to say, i am in not in IT, and to be honest dont know the first thing about website design, so all the technical stuff that has been discussed in this site has gone straight over my head! Thanks for the input though, I had no idea that so many people didnt have flash on their computers. All the best sites are flash. (I am biased in this, my dad is a flash animator!) Unfortunatley I cant change the 'flashiness' of the site as it was created using a web-based design program which is entirely based on flash. I'll bare it in mind for the future though, and maybe actually try to learn dreamweaver or similar. Ive got plenty of time to learn, I am only 20 after all.

Im just glad that although a lot of the talk in this thread has been a little off topic, at least you're talking! Publicity is good.

As for ideas that are coming in, im surprised by the volume of response, so sorry if replies about individual ideas are slow. I'll get back to everyone but it could take a little while! Trying to juggle this project with writing my dissertation and its not easy.

Thankyou for all the positive responses and the critisism, its all helpfull! Holly

VMS - when downtime is not an option.

If you need any job control language writing I'm your man! It's been a
good few years but I'm sure the VMS grey cells are still there under the
dust :-)
Getting way off topic now, but I once wrote a very large JCL program to
monitor and regulate the system, run various jobs, backups, reports etc.
I even gave it it's own username space to run in "Marvin". It would
monitor and log off idle users and send messages to appropriate people
saying printers had run out of paper etc. It got quite chatty with one
user one day and they phoned up the I.T. dept asking to speak to Marvin
:-)

... the Paranoid Android?

You're showing your age.

:-) I'm not denying the age, but I've discovered the Hitchhiker only
about a year ago, when the new fillum (as they say here in Ireland)
came to the big screen. It wasn't part of my youth's pop culture, as
it took place away from the British Isles.
I've read the books since, and enjoyed them - though less than Terry
Pratchet's - but that's even further off topic than we've ventured so
far.

So I could be, really, really, really young... at heart... really...
honest.

I'm being rather more challenging than that: I want *permanent* weed
removal. As in pluck once in a lifetime. As in creeping-buttercup-

Just get a trowel, dear. and persevere. OIt worked for me.

As in total weed sterility (with
perfect wanted plant fruitfulness, of course).

For certain values of 'weed' of course. That is, YOUR values.

Quite. I want all plants I deem to be weeds gone, henceforth, without
having to work too hard on it. Hey, as I said, I may as well dream
here...

I wonder if the laser technology for unwanted hair removal could be
adapted...

It doesn't work.

Laser hair removal? Oh, good. I'll keep going with the old razor
then ;-)
