Wanted a very large, almost decadently beautiful, clematis.
I want a clematis that has the wow factor, noting subtle, small or
delicate, I have many of those as Charlie knows. What I want is in your face, beautiful to the extreme of being obscene, any ideas, colour preferred would be white but the single most important factor, is the brief in the subject line. Judith |

I just took a look at Arctic Queen, gorgeous, now to see if I can buy one here in France as postage is quite expensive to send them from England. I took a look at Guy's site, brilliant unusual climbers, I would enjoy half a day strolling round there Judith |

writes I had a "henryi", but it died :-( That comes close. As does "The President", which is an extreme purple. I once had a lonicera henryi which was the most boring plant i have ever owned, no fragrance and horrible small brown colour flowers. Hope it wasn't named after the same plant breeder as the clematis! -- Janet Tweedy Dalmatian Telegraph http://www.lancedal.demon.co.uk |

It was indeed but he did not breed either plant but was a plant collector, I gather its rather the luck of the draw when one is honoured by having a plant species named after one, you could end up with something beautiful or a weed! -- Charlie Pridham, Gardening in Cornwall www.roselandhouse.co.uk Holders of national collections of Clematis viticella cultivars and Lapageria rosea |
