Default Privet Hedge

A friend of mine has a long and tall privet hedge , which they spent all
last Sunday cutting.
They said they had heard that you can get something to spray on the hedge to
reduce its growth .
Was this wishful thinking on their behalf , or is there something they can
get

Many thanks

I doubt it.

Many years ago there was a product called Cutlass which could be used for
this purpose, but it hasn't been available for some time. There was also a
product called "Stop Grow G8" available from Victoriana Nursery Gardens
until a couple of years ago, but this too seems to have disappeared from the
market.
