Seeking shade-loving plants and roses for tubs.
 

Any suggestions for small, "interesting", shade-loving shrubs or
ground-cover plants and mail-order businesses to buy them from? Also
roses suitable for tubs. In both cases things that thrive on neglect
will be of particular interest.

If you're anywhere near South Norfolk I'll give you a rose in a tub -
well, I'll give you the rose and the soil it's in, anyway. Rather like a
small white dog rose with a yellow centre IIRC, and *VERY* vigorous.

my front garden is in shade and lily of the valley is really good ground cover , the soil is very poor and sandy but this year they have gone mad , but the smell is really nice.

Shade-loving shrubs:

Butcher's Broom
Sarcococca confusa - wonderful winter scent.
Rhododendrons and azaleas [acid soil needed]
Euonymous "Emerald 'n' gold"

Ferns are worth considering.

As to roses for tubs, I find that the Scotch burnet rose does fine and needs little attention: Rosa spinossisima [it comes in pink, cream and white]. {David Austin Roses will supply]

Rose "Warm Welcome" does well in a tub, quick grower with beautiful orangey flowers.
