Compost Pest
During the past few days some bedding plants, which were still in
shallow seed trays in the greenhouse, suddenly withered and died. On inspection of their roots I found a white maggot type creature in the compost. In another tray I found many chestnut brown cocoons/pupa amongst the compost. This was compost I purchased from a garden centre (Arthur Bowers) Does anyone know what these pests are and where they probably came from? Thanks |

Thanks You dont give a size but it sounds as if they are fungus gnat lava, if this is the case your compost has been kept too wet. -- Charlie Pridham, Gardening in Cornwall www.roselandhouse.co.uk Holders of national collections of Clematis viticella cultivars and Lapageria rosea |
