I use Google earth with an overlay from
http://meteox.com/gmap.aspx
Updates about every 15 mins. so I can see how long to spend outside
before I get drenched.

Waste of time :-((

Only tells you what you already know and have got a soaking.

A Pine Cone is just as good. If it's wet, it's been raining or is raining.

Not a waste of time at all, with google I can see where the rain clouds
are, see the the direction they are coming and pre-empt the rain,

Very useful for a nursery if rain has been forecast but is either moving
away or about to appear a lot more quickly than expected.

So do I.

When we had a dog we used to let her out for a few minutes and feel her
coat when she came in.

It isn't advisable with cats, they come in with droplets on the tip of
their long hairs and brush it off against your leg.

This map's MUCH better than the met office one, also the interval's
15min rather than 1 hour.

Now bookmarked and mentioned in uk.sci.weather
