I have a mystery weed in my borders, and wonder if anyone can ID it for me.

There's a photo at: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/melanie.mccluskey/

Many thanks.

Ah, thanks, yes. I've just Googled "hawkweed" - it's Orange Hawkweed. Tis
the devil's weed, I tell ya. I'll be out with the Roundup this weekend.

Thanks.

I've just been reading up on this and it seems that you can actually buy
seeds for this plant. I suppose if it's kept under control it's okay, but
in my garden this is one of the most invasive plants I've ever come across.
It only appeared in my garden last year, and this year it's swamping
everything and I don't like orange flowers!

Orange Hawkweed it is - Mouse-ear Hawkweed only has one flower on each
stem. My mistake - sorry.

You don't need Roundup for that. It comes up quite easily in my front
garden. It spreads by roots just under the soil and if you ease up
the main bit, and pull, the rest come up beautifully for me.

Incidentally several of my neighbours have asked what that pretty
orange flower is . . . . One even asked me to pot her up a bit as
she knew I was removing it!

I love it, we found just one plant in the 'lawn many yezrs go nd I tried to
make it reproduce but it wouldn't.

Last year it appeared briefly in the bank, this year it has spread and
spread, wonderful ground cover and it's unaffected by the hens' scratching.
It's still flowering too!

It's locally known as fox and cubs, Devil's paintbrush and (our favourite)
Grim the Collier.
