Aquadulce Claudia

I know that the broad bean Aquadulce Claudia is supposed to be sown in about
November. But I didn't because my soil is extremely wet. So, can I sow
them now?

Many Thanks.

Oh yes. I sow mine in succession since there's just the two of us, and I
just use aquadulce all the time, saves worrying whether I've sown the right
ones. Also I sow them in pots then plant out, this avoids gaps in the rows,
lets me do the sowing in the greenhouse out of the rain, and gives them a
head start over the weeds.

We eventually gave up sowing them in the autumn due to losses over winter
and planted them about now with great success and no losses. I swear they
catch up anyway.

Great, thanks. I'll get them in sometime soon. A big, bright, yellow thing
has just this second appeared in the sky, so things are looking up!!

I gave up a couple of decades back, for that very reason, but usually
didn't get around to planting them until welll into March (because
the soil was too wet to work). Last year, I thought "We have had a
decade of mild winters - it's time to try again."

So you can blame me for the winter :-)

I would get them in as soon as you feel the soil has dried sufficiently.
Or start them in pots and transplant as soon as possible.

I sowed mine in November as always - admittedly in raised beds to keep
them off the N. Dorset clay. They have performed perfectly and are now
c. 6-8 ins high and I haven't lost one (except possibly where I
stupidly stuck a batten for future stringing right through one of the
beans on the day I sowed them). Typical!
