Default Wot no flowers?

I have a Hamamelis molis "Palida" which is 3-5 years old. It has hardly
grown but they are slow growers, the situation looks textbook. It flowered
fine in Feb in earleir years but now the leaves are coming. Any ideas why
it is unhappy this year?

It will usually be something to do with the conditions last years when it
was developing its flower buds. But Pallidas (and other mollis
cultivars/hybrids) in garden centres seem to be flowering well.
