Weedkiller & pets

My 'garden' is being over-run with brambles, ground elder, bindweed and more. It's been gravelled but the membrane is shot - I'd like to get half of it back to being planted but I need weedkiller (never used it before!), as it's a shared garden I need to make sure the girl upstairs' dog will be safe to go outside. Glyphosate apparently is fine for pets after it dries, but I wanted to make doubly sure.
Do any of you know if glyphosate is ok to use any time of year, has anyone used it, is it as pet-safe as they say, and how might it afect the birds?

Have you tried drying and smoking it?

Cannabis sativa has deeply palmately lobed simple leaves; this plant
appears to have palmately compound leaves.

If my memory serves me correctly, the only tree with palmately compound
leaves regularly grown in the UK is Aesculus (Horse Chestnuts and
Buckeyes). But the deep serration of the leaflets doesn't match anything
I've seen.

Pure guess - probably wrong - some kind of maple?

I think it is not a tree but a climber, Virginia Creeper
(Parthenocissus quinquefolia). Is that possible? Mine has leaves like
that and took a few years to get going.

That's exactly what I thought it was! I'm with you 100 o/o, Pam.

Now did I suggest that? On this genteel group too, shame on you.

I wondered whether it's perhaps not a tree but a young climber that
hasn't yet found the need for support. Virginia creeper?

Surely, it should be 'going' after two years?

Thanks Spruce, yeah it does - but it's growing on an upright tree-like

It is not Boston Ivy, but Virginia Creeper Parthenocissus
quinquefolia. It starts off on a small stem, but is a rampant climber,
though less aggressive than Boston Ivy. *It is not a tree.

I am interested in what you say. I have Boston Ivy on the front of my
house. It is the self suckering type; not the clinging type. I was
told; correct me if I am wrong; that it was "Vettcihi"?

No, mine looked like a little tree to start with. Once it gets itself
near something to climb, off it goes.

It needs encouragement to climb. (you know, get down to its level and
whisper "you can do it"). Mine had nothing to climb and stayed quite
happily in its small pot. Once I planted it by a fence, whoosh, it
was off!

I think that as well the leaf is exactly the same as the 'weeping' maple I
have outside, my window I will get a photo tomorrow. The colour looks right
as well, going a deeper copper in autumn

Could be, I suppose but the serrations on the edge of the leaf look
very pronounced, to me.
