Weedkiller Advice Please
 

We have quite a lot of crazy paving in our garden. (It was laid by a
previous occupier)

It's costing us a lot for weedkiller to keep the weeds at bay.

Is there something cheaper (& hopefully more effective) than the
commercially available weedkillers that we could use to keep the cost down
?.

I suggest that you search www.google.com for: killing weeds on crazy
paving. It will reveal an abundance of information on your subject
and hopefully it will be helpful. Pathclear appears to be very
ineffective these days.

Weed burner, you don't really say how large an area you have but a small
hand held gas powered one would deal with a paths and a 4 x 5m patio no
problem. You don't need to incinerate the weeds the flash heat damages the
leaves and they die. No plant can survive having it's top growth destroyed
on a regular basis.

If you can be confident that the stuff won't leach across into
cultivated soil then Sodium Chlorate will do the business rather
effectively. Legal and cheap the effect lasts about 6 - 9 months.

A waste of time and money, you have to keep doing it for months, maybe even
years, better to use something like sodium chlorate.

I suggest you consider removing the existing joints and re-doing the
pointing. 4 parts sand to 1 part cement and this time with a polished
raised peak (but no higher than the stone level obviously), rather
than a soil and debris collecting, weed welcoming trough.

Try half-strength glyphosate. Seriously. Sodium chlorate DOESN'T
kill many weeds, but merely burns their tops off.

Isn't there another "slight" problem with NaClO3 in that the dead vegetation
is more flammable? I saw an uncle burn off the dead weeds in his drive
after that treatment and I recall that the flames spread very, very quickly,
almost explosively.
