Default Seeds to plant now for late summer ( Aug - Sept) flowering ?

Hi all. I've just unearthed some really nice pots dimensions approx 5
to 6 inches in depth and 15 inches in diameter and was wondering is it
too late to plant summer flowering annual seeds now ?
Alternatively, could someone kindly recommend something which
germinates quickly, is readily available would add a nice splash of
colour for late summer . I would prefer seed as opposed to bulb or
bedding ( a last resort as the plants on general sale show little
variety). Something along the lines of Calendula ( of which I have
plenty I hasten to add) would be perfect. I planted some seed but two
weeks ago and germination and subsequent growth has been very rapid !

Thanks again

Try ipomeas - they tend not to do very well if planted too early, so
they're worth a bash - though they usually prefer a deeper pot.
Nasturtiums also have just about enough time to get going and will
flower till cut down by frost. Some of the stocks flower in something
like 6-12 weeks from seed, so that's a possibility, though I have never
grown them this late.
