New Year's Resolutions

One of my NYRs is to totally ignore long-term weather forecasts. "Barbeque
summer" and "mild winter" were forecast this year for some planet, but it
certainly wasn't ours.

My other NYR is to deal with my collection of plants-in-waiting ... that is,
if any of them are still waiting at the end of this freeze:~(

Anyone else made resolutions .. keepable or otherwise?

Oh, they're always good for a giggle - but I know something about the
science involved :-)

Nick Maclaren.

Giggling seems to be all they're good for! Just as well my giggle muscles
need exercising :~).
So, were you a weather forecaster or something, Nick?

Oh, yes, I know Alga Kelp quite well.

But I think that the forecasters rely on their bunions nowadays.

Quite.

Not really. But I was/am a mathematician with a wide but shallow
knowledge of a lot of scientific areas, and am a numerical and
algorithmic 'expert'.

The serious meteorologists reckon that they can do fairly reliable
short-term weather forecasting and long-term climatic forecasting,
but don't have a lot of truck with any weather forecasting above
about a week for the UK. It's only one step removed from voodoo.

Regards,
Nick Maclaren.

Or, you're just content with the status quo. If it ain't broke, don't mend
it?

Since I've often been called "stubborn", "obstinate" and "single-minded", I
suspect I must have a resolute character. Either that, or I'm perverse
:~). Mmmm.. now I come to think of it ....

Crikey! Sounds very brainy. I couldn't get my head round aglo-thingies
when I was at school. Arithmetic I can wrestle with, but mathematics always
tosses me out of the ring. As to forecasting weather with maths, I'm a
non-starter.

I'm glad they can do it at all, but I don't trust any of it much above about
3 days. I don't think I could cope with voodoo any better than those
icy-bars. I think I might hibernate until the spring. I'll just eat my own
bodyweight in food before I do :-O

Or even longer range forecasts like climate change etc. Isn't it
interesting how the name changes to support the argument, Global
warming-- Climate Change
