Replacing a hedgetrimmer recoil starter cord
Has anyone here done this ...... Is it easy ?
I have Spear & Jackson petrol model and cord is fraying so I thought I'd better replace it before it goes ! Is it straightforward or had I better take it in to the repair shop Thanks for any help |

A bit of trial and error to get the tension right may be in order. Steve |

Do you know if the spring tension is lost when the old cord is removed ? Yes, normally it would be lost when the cord snapped. That's where the trial and error comes in. Since yours hasn't snapped yet, you may or may not be able to mark the relative positions of two adjacent parts to help getting it right. Steve |

Recoil spring permantly under increased tension etc. That much shouln't hurt. Easiest way is to slide the handle down the cord, then cut and re-tie. If you still need a new cord, generic ones are available, it doesn't need to be specific to your machine. Steve |
