Would suggest the best thing to hang up at this stage is your impatience

:)

I always thought the banana skins were of use at the end of the season
to help ripen thosse tomatoes you've taken off the plants before the
frosts and put in drawers.

Ours are just starting to ripen outdoors (Suffolk) so I suspect your will
suddenly start to go quite soon.

And autumn nearly upon us, too

I was driving through Newport yesterday and in one area, three Council
sweeper vans were out. The roads were ankle deep in
leaves dropping off of the trees.
Although in other areas, leaves on the ground were there none.

My neighbour's large beech is donning its autumn colours as I speak.

My greenhouse toms were all green until recently but some are now
ripening. I suspect that this year I planted in a very well-manured
soil and rather favoured foliage over fruit.

I was always told it was whole brown bananas, not just the skin.

We ate our first outdoor toms yesterday. 4 cherry tomatoes :-)
Patience. You will soon find you've got more than you can eat!

We've had a good handful of basket hanging tomatoes (bigger than cherries,
smaller than full sized). I can't remember without my book what variety
they were. (not a tumbling-tom type, not garden pearl, which we have in
outdoor pots, but another that I didn't realise was a tumbler until I had
already potted them to nearly-grow-bag size!)
And we've had a small handful of cherries from the greenhouse, possibly from
the 'berry' type - which is a lot smaller than I remember it being!

Our plants are all a bit panicky and unhappy cos we only just got round to
feeding them a week ago for this year. :-(

Same here Kate. I think mine are waiting for the blight to set in,
then I'll have another year of NO ripe tomatoes!!! However, a friend
with a greenhouse full of plants has only just started picking.

I think that this is about the 'normal' time for tomatoes. Our local
gardening club annual show is on 21st August, and I remember every year
being in a panic because I only have 1 or 2 tomatoes ripe. So starting to
pick before the end of the July is, IMHO, quite 'good'.

Must be Newport Gwent, they cant find their way around on their own :)

(Duck for cover and hastily appologises to Newport.) Here in Powys, I've
not seen a road sweeper for ages, they only do the rural roads when
someone complains I think.
